Klaus and Katja Schiller
with their little daughter Monja
At a young age, Klaus heard God's call to go to the mission field. He qualified as an engineer at the Cape Technikon and Katja as an occupational therapist at the University of Pretoria.
After their qualifications they both went for theological studies at Kalk Bay Bible Institute. They met each other in Pretoria and got married in Swakopmund, Namibia in 2000.
In his final year at Bible College, Klaus was approached by TWR to consider joining as a missionary. TWR was in need of a technician at the transmitter site in Swaziland.
In September 2004, after much prayer and consideration, Klaus, Katja and their little daughter Monja, arrived in Manzini, the second largest town in Swaziland.
Klaus's main responsibility is to help maintain TWR's short and medium wave transmitters located about half an hour's drive outside Manzini. This includes checking the transmitters, repairing them when necessary and seeing to it that the audio link to the site is always operational.
In short, Klaus helps a great deal to ensure that the preaching and teaching of God's Word in different languages are heard in many countries of Africa.
Fortunately, Klaus loves climbing towers! He has been able to help take down and put up masts for the antennae. Klaus is also in charge of the security system on the site.
As part of the maintenance team, Klaus has his turn to be on call over weekends. This means that if a fault in transmitting occurs at whatever time of day or night, especially during broadcast hours, Klaus needs to travel to the site and think quickly and clearly to solve the problem.
Katja enjoys being a housewife and a mother. She also assists the wives of the other missionary families as they host visitors to TWR-Swaziland.
The family is eager to learn the SiSwati language, which will help them minister even more effectively to the people of Swaziland.
