Verona and Gottfried Schiele

Verona and Gottfried Schiele

Gottfried and Verona Schiele joined Trans World Radio in 1992, first serving at the transmitting station in Swaziland and then at the Cary office in the United States. He then served at the South African office in Pretoria before moving to the Africa Regional Office in Kempton Park in 2002.

Gottfried is the Regional Systems Administrator and is responsible for the computerisation of TWR's Africa region. He has played a key role in operations as TWR has moved across to digital audio for recording and broadcasting, by providing the computer networks required and writing software suited to the mission's specific needs. Gottfried also provides key services such as Internet, email, Internet access, data storage and printing facilities.

Gottfried frequently travels to national offices and studios around Africa to set up services in environments where computer and Internet infrastructure is often lacking. He has excelled in providing TWR with quality services in these countries, while sharing his skills with TWR staff and training them to maintain their systems and solve problems when they occur.

Gottfried's position is one of responsibility, as he has to ensure that radio programmes recorded are stored on reliable systems with backups. This ensures that radio programmes are available for broadcast at the right time.

Gottfried and Verona have three children: Christel, Michael and Renate. The family lives in Kempton Park, close to the regional office, enabling Gottfried to be nearby in case of emergencies at the playout centre.
