A story of courage and strength under great persecution

For years the attacks on Amelia’s family were great. In the TWR Project Hannah PH) prayer group Amelia felt challenged and began to grow spiritually. As she proceeded to draw closer to the Lord and have an intimate relationship with Him, she also came face to face with the enemy.

Amelia grew up in a Christian home and was very active in her church. But it was only when she joined a PH prayer group five years ago that she realized she had never had a personal experience with Jesus Christ as her Saviour.

Amelia married Andre, who professed to be a Christian. In spite of challenges caused by the civil war in their country of Angola, the family seemed happy and lived a godly life. After the birth of their third child, Amelia started noticing some behavior and attitude changes in her husband, especially with an obsessive desire to climb the social ladder and have better things. As the pressure for a better life increased, he neglected the fellowship with believers and resorted to witchcraft and female friendships.

Amelia was haunted with nightmares of snakes and monsters in the house. Objects changed places without human touch. When she confronted her husband about it he told her the witchdoctor said he would only be prosperous if he sacrificed his family.

Amelia, in her despair, brought these heavy burdens to the PH members to lift in prayer to the Lord. One night she had a dream in which she saw a sword and a person in prayer. Puzzled and wanting to know the meaning of her dream, she asked the PH coordinator to explain it to her.

The coordinator, not knowing exactly what to say, told her about the verse in Hebrews 4:12, "For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit…and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart."(NASB) She encouraged Amelia to pray, allowing God to speak to her through the reading of the Bible. Amelia took the advice and was determined to do just as she was told.

As she prayed and meditated on God’s word, peace filled her heart, even though the circumstances around her hadn’t changed. As the prayers of many women were lifted to the Lord, deliverance and freedom from the devil's stronghold begun to crumble. Andre began to feel uneasy in the house with Amelia. He told her she had some power that prevented him from performing his rituals and made the decision to leave her.

Although he left, his wife and children now have peace and tranquility in the house. Amelia and the PH team are praying that God will touch Andre wherever he is and bring him back home. Please pray for the family.
